Michelle & Zak Wedding

the story

Zak proposed in Gramercy Park on June 4, 2016. “We live close to the private beautiful park that is only accessible by key. He tricked me into thinking we were meeting friends at the park before a charity event but ended up proposing on a quiet path with his siblings hiding in the bushes taking pictures,” says Michelle. “After a romantic dinner nearby, Zak surprised me again with all of our immediate family together in a bar. I had held it together pretty well all evening but seeing all of our family together for the first time really had the waterworks going!” When she began looking at wedding venues, she immediately turned to Tappan Hill Mansion. “When I a was a teenager I attended an older cousins wedding at an exclusive Abigail kirsch venue and to this day I remember how amazing the food was,” says Michelle. “Tappan Hill was the perfect combination of gorgeous setting and amazing service. We knew immediately that we were in great hands.”

the style

“We wanted a wedding that felt like us. We wanted it to be personal and romantic but, most importantly, fun,” says Michelle. “We had Zak’s step-dad marry us and my cousin sing when I walked down the aisle. We wanted to make sure that the ceremony was as intimate as possible and kindly asked guests to be present during it without using their cellphones. It made for a really emotional ceremony. From the romantic blush tones in the flowers, paper accessories and bridesmaids dresses, to the fun 90s throwback hits from our DJ, to the cheeseburger sliders at the end of the night, I think we accomplished a wedding that truly reflected us as a couple.”

memorable moment

“Our first look. I initially wasn’t thrilled about seeing Zak prior to the ceremony, but I am so happy I did. Any nerves completely went away once I saw him and we were able to really enjoy the ceremony. It also allowed us to attend most of our cocktail hour so we were able to greet our guests prior to dinner and dancing. It was one of the best decisions we made,” says Michelle. “Also memorable, my dad and Ed our AK Event Manager surprised us with a cart of food prepared from my dad’s garden. He has a very large vegetable and flower garden, and it was so special to incorporate that into the cocktail hour. It was just another personal detail that helped make the evening so special. Everyone loved it!”

what guests are saying

“Our guests can not stop talking about the food! Guests have told us they never had food so great at a wedding before,” says Michelle. “They have raved about every part from cocktails to desserts. We even had a guest who is a restaurant owner and he is trying to figure out how to re-create the amazing Branzino dish we had!”
