Tappan Hill Wedding

the story

William knew he wanted to propose at the couple’s favorite location – their home! “He secretly called out sick from work and spent the day setting up our backyard with twinkly lights, rose petals and candles, so when I walked in, there was a trail of rose petals from the front door leading to the backyard outside where he was waiting on bended knee!” says Caitlin.

Soon after, the couple settled on a venue — and it was a no-brainer! “I am a Senior Sales Manager for Abigail Kirsch, and back when I interviewed over four years ago, I knew no matter if I got the job or not, I would one day be getting married at Tappan Hill Mansion,” says Caitlin. “Thankfully I did get the job 🙂 and I know first hand how dedicated the team is in making every wedding go as perfect as possible. Plus, there’s really nothing more jaw-dropping than the outdoor ceremony space!”

the style

“We wanted a classic, romantic look with lots of personalization. Working in the wedding industry for almost eight years, I wanted to incorporate unique, personal touches throughout — bar napkins with fun facts about us as a couple, miniature “happy tears” tissue boxes for the ceremony, a live painter who painted our first dance, a custom cake topper that looked just like us, and a slideshow that showed our family and friends throughout the years,” says Caitlin. “William even built the custom bar, escort sign, and cake stand, which stood out against vibrant and colorful florals. The best advice I could give a couple is to choose vendors who really “get” you. Everyone brought our vision together seamlessly and when you trust your vendors, you don’t have to worry about a thing all day.”

favorite menu item

Caitlin: Butlered Desserts – “It kept everyone on the dance floor, but gave our guests delicious
miniature desserts to enjoy. People were so surprised when donuts, pretzels, and miniature pies and ice cream were being walked around!”
William: Artisan Steakhouse Beef – “One of the best I’ve ever had!”

memorable moment

“William and I only disagreed on one wedding detail – the cake flavor. I had wanted red velvet, and he had wanted funfetti. He finally agreed to have red velvet, but little did he know the AK team and I were surprising him with a funfetti wedding cake all along. Our amazing event manager, Ed, made sure all of our paperwork still said red velvet so as not to ruin the surprise. Will’s reaction when we cut our cake was priceless – and it was also the most delicious funfetti cake we’ve ever had!” recalls Caitlin.

Another moment the couple will never forget? How Mother Nature tricked them both! “We had a terrible weather forecast all week and I was heartbroken that we weren’t going to get married outside. But 30 minutes before our “first look,” the sun came out, and stayed out – it was an unbelievable surprise,” says Caitlin. “William and I chose to write our own vows, and as the sun set behind us, it was truly the most special moment we could have imagined.”

what guests are saying

“Our guests were stunned by the picturesque views, and kept telling us how ‘restaurant’ the food and service felt – it’s definitely not your typical wedding venue! Everyone kept commenting that everything was so beautiful and professional, but also FUN. We are so grateful for how flawless the night was – nothing skipped a beat for even a second. It was truly a dream wedding,” says Caitlin. “I have seen weddings with AK and Tappan Hill now both as an employee and a bride, and I can wholeheartedly say getting married with AK was the best decision. We consider ourselves very lucky to have been married here, and are so grateful for such a perfect wedding day.”
