the story

College sweethearts, Taylor and Matt, met at Towson University about 10 years ago. As sales manager for Abigail Kirsch’s Off-Premises Catering division, Taylor was very familiar with which months are quieter than others in the event industry. That’s why when one of her colleagues asked her to attend a meeting at The Skylark at 5:00pm on a Friday night in February, she thought something was up, but later brushed her suspicions aside. “He did a great job in getting me to really think we were actually going to a meeting,” says Taylor. “But when we arrived at the lounge, we were greeted by the floor manager, and I was brought towards one of the private rooms with a beautiful sunset in the backdrop. It was decorated with flowers, candles and pictures of us from the last decade. It all made sense now!” And after Matt proposed, there was an extra surprise. “Little did I know, 80 of our closest family and friends were waiting for us at a bar to continue the celebration!” says Taylor.

the style

“I would say our style was simple elegance,” says Taylor. “We chose Weylin in Williamsburg as our wedding venue because it is so beyond anything you could ever imagine. The space is the old Williamsburg Savings Bank which was recently restored to highlight the beauty of the building from when it was designed in 1875. It has amazingly intricate 110-ft high dome ceilings in the main space, and a speakeasy gallery we used for the cocktail and after party. So we wanted to make sure that everything we did tied into the space and didn’t outshine its character.”

favorite menu item

“This is like asking who your favorite child is… We would say the most impressive items were the Mojito Granitas, the Donut Dowels and the Amped Up Shakes!”

memorable moment

“Our favorite moment was simply being surrounded by everyone we love and care about – including my Kirsch family! It would not have been the same without them,” says Taylor. “And we’ll never forget how during our after party, my (beyond amazing) assistant and creative genius maître d’ made shirts with our hashtag as a surprise! All of the waiters were wearing them with safari hats as a send off for our South African honeymoon. Also, being in the business, I genuinely did not expect that I’d be able to let go and enjoy myself as much as I did. I guess my trust in my team allowed me to relax and be the bride. Never in our wildest dreams could we have ever imagined a more perfect wedding surrounded by our family, friends and the best catering family in the game – it was pure magic!”

what guests are saying

Everyone can not stop talking about the food, and how it was the best they ever had at a wedding — so unique and different than anything else. They could not get enough of the donuts and shakes!
